Last Post!

Ok... This is my final post of the summer!  I cannot believe how quickly this summer has gone! I feel like just yesterday I was bikini shopping! Now I am binder shopping! I read my three books The Help, The Romeo and Juliet Code, and Kira-Kira..  Out of all my books I have to say I enjoyed The Help the most because I felt like I learned more about another person and life than any other book. It really opened my eyes!
I finished Kira-Kira and by the end suprisingly I really enjoyed it! I could really relate to Katie when her sister died because she had the same feelings that I have when I loose someone I love. Also, her relationahip that she has with her sister is about identical than the relationship I have with my brother! I love my brother and he is either my comedic relief when I am down or my reality and advice whem I am happy. If I ever lost Daniel I would have the same feelings that she has about her sister.
I really got teary when Katie's family started calling her sister Lynn "the body" when she died and she stood up and yelled for them to call her Lynn, because she deserved dignity even when she was dead. This really made me realize the true friendship and love she had with her sister. This made me cry because I saw this and thought about the realtionship I have with my friends and brother and I would not put through what Katie had to go through to my worst enemy! I really appreciated reading about this bond.

Last Post of Romeo and Juliet Code- SPOILER!

Oops! I forgot to post about  The Romeo and Juliet Code! I turned out to love this book when I finished it! The ending was so good! This ending is like The Dark Knight Rises, it was so good... but I just cannot help to spoil it! Anywho, as I looked at my books I realized that I had read books that gave me a new perspective on a different race, religion, or country!
Think about it... reading The Help , I got to see the view of someone going through the Civil Rights Movemt, that was really interesting, I had never heard about that before! In  The Romeo and Juliet Code I learned about Felicity getting litterally taken out of her home ( Great Britian) and getting put into America! I have to admit, if you are not used to Americans... we are a big pill to swallow! I really appreciated learning about all these perspectives. If I had not done this summer project, I would not have learned about others point of view!
Finally, the ending! It was great. Felicity and Derek (her little crush) have hit a spark. ( As my grandmother says.) Felicity has decided to stay and live with her Uncle. Stop! It turns out her uncle was her dad, and her "dad" was really her uncle! Her Aunt Miami stopped obsessing over Romeo and Juliet!  I loved this book, and loved the ending more!

Welll... right now I am reading Kira-Kira.  I HATE it! It is probably one of the worst books I have ever read so far! However, I had only red a few chapters and the most exciting thing that has happened is that they go to a motel. As I am ripping my hair out reading this book I have got to put myself in Katie's situation: It has got to be pretty grueling to go from Iowa, a place she loves and has alot of Japaneese people from her culture. Then, she has to move to the South, in her case this is a very cold, cruel, place that judges her by her skin and how she looks. This got me thinking, does this happen in our area? Not today... right?
Okay, granted this was used before The Civil Rights Movement... but Katie in her family is in America during World War One, this must be about the degree of racism that Katie and her family have dealt with because of the war with the Japaneese.

Okay, this makes me sick. Enough said. This is a perfect example of racism today. You would think that in a "civilized" society America would be past this! This is a perfect example of how a society can think about another race...just because of a war we are having with people that have the same skin color. This shows me that this is the kind of terrible things that Katie and her family have been going through. Like a good friend of mine said we are all minorities somewhere else. Well said!

The Romeo and Juliet Code

Okay... anyone who knows mw well knows that this is NOT a usual book I will pick up. I am not the sappy book type! (Unlesss this is a Nicholas Sparks book ,that has Ryan Gosling in the movie.) I have to say fighting with my mother in Barnes and Nobles was definately in retrospect not necessary, I am addicted to this book!
I love this book because Felicity (Fliss) is set on a mysterious stay at her Uncle's house. On her stay she meets her Aunt Miami, The Gram (her grandmother), and Uncle Bathburn, and Captain Derek. For weeks Fliss has not seen or heard Captain Derek since she has arrived at the house, except for the crumbs left on the cookie plate in the morning...
When Fliss finally meets this Captain Derek she finally realizes, he is her age! Derek dreams of fighting in the current war (World War Two) but has been struck with polio that has paralyzed his arm. Feeling self concious, he has been bed ridden in agaony. However, she has been getting coded messages frim her dad, not to her but her Uncle! Fliss uses Derek to try and break the code...
For my creative point I have decided to make a mini dictionary because Fliss is from Britian and moves to Maine and I have learned alot of British vocabulary!

Ok, this is the final post about The Help! I have finally finished the book and I have decided that it is my favorite book I have ever read! I loved the movie and I honestly like movies better than books. I loved the movie because I could really see the characters transform into real lfe! I loved the point of the view of the Help and that I had never heard of this view before. Torwards the end it was so suspensful because I thought Skeeter, Aibilene, and Minny were going to get caught!
In the end, Skeeter, Aiblene and Minny got stronger mentally! Skeeter moved to New York to follow her dreams, and stood up to Stuart for not supporting her book. Aibilene follows in her son's footsteps and becomes the author he dreamed of becoming. Finally, Minny stood up to Leroy and got out of her abusive house! Not only did it take courage to make that book, but it also inspired those girls to do what they had inside always. It just took one book to change their lives forever!
I loved how The Help had Skeeter, Aibilene, and Minny's point of view. I have to say although Minny is hllarious Aibilene's point of view was the most interesting. I liked how in the book it really went into depth on her relationship with Mrs. Leefolt! I was shocked that Mrs. Leefolt barely loved her own cild! I was also very touched when Aibilene left Mae Mobley and her reaction! I had to whip out the tissues for that!

The Help : 1st post

I have no idea what got into me tonight but I have decided to write about The Help as one of my books that I will read this summer. While listening to Glee after Riding Academy this summer (definately not a shocker) I am inspired to blog so here it goes :)
I am currently reading The Help and I am about in the middle of it when Mrs. Celia attacks the naked hobo. ( That wasn't supposed to be a joke it really happens. ) I love the fact that Mrs. Celia really protects Minny when she is in a time of need when they are on man-to-man combat with this strange man. When the man punches Minny in the head when she is down, Mrs. Celia takes the fire poker and just goes to town on that man's poor face.
This gets me thinking: if I was living in the 1960's would I be as racist as Mrs. Hilly, or would I be kind and loving like Mrs. Celia. I know that times were very different in the middle of the Cicil Rights movement. Would I have kept my morals that my parents have drilled into my head? Or, would I stray and make a seperate bathroom for the people who raised my children, because I thought they were unsanitary? I can only hope that I would be like Mrs, Celia and do the right thing and HElP the HELP. See what I did there? :)

My Frst Post for Extra Credit (:

Well, this is my very first post on my first blog ever! I am supposed to talk all about reading, but I don't really read. That is something I probably need to do that more. Even though I will be pretty busy this blog will force me to read more. Sadly, this will just make more nervous about eighth grade year to be writing for Mr. Pearman.
My favorite book is The Help and The Eighty Dollar Champion. I love The Help! Not only is it my favorite book but also my favorite movie! The Eighty Dollar Champion is about a Dutch immigrant that starts riding an old plow horse. Together they win the most prestige show jumping competition at Madison Square Garder. Even though it is about horses it is a feel good story for everone.
I am also addicted to The Canterwood Crest series by Jessica Burkhart but I do not reccomend it to anyone who is not obsessed with horses like I am. I find myself being like the main character, Sasha, in so many ways! We even look alike! This is about the extent to reading that I do. However, I do find myself going to Barnes and Nobles on a rainy Sunday and playing tag in the isles with my friends and checking out the music. This is about the extent of my reading, for now.
